Divine Prayer ("we," "our," or "the App") is a devotional mobile application for Hindu, Buddhist, and Jain practitioners. We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting your personal information.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Automatically Collected
- Anonymous User ID — Generated automatically via Firebase Anonymous Authentication. No email, phone number, or personal identity is required.
- Device Information — Platform (iOS/Android), app version, and language preference for technical support.
1.2 User-Provided (Optional)
- Display Name — Optional name shown on community prayer wall and deity story posts. You can use any name or leave it as "A Devotee."
- Prayer Text — Community prayers you choose to share publicly (max 140 characters).
- Story Text — Community deity stories you choose to share publicly (max 280 characters).
- Journal Entries — Personal spiritual reflections stored on your device and optionally synced to cloud backup.
- Feedback — Bug reports, feature requests, or content suggestions you submit.
1.3 Location Data
- GPS Location — Used only for the Temple Finder feature to find nearby temples. Accessed only when you use this feature and grant permission. Never stored on our servers.
1.4 Usage Data
- Reading Progress — Scripture verses read, story chapters completed, reading streaks. Stored locally and optionally synced to cloud backup.
- Temple Check-ins — Temples you choose to check into. Stored locally.
- Bookmarks — Saved deities, stories, verses, and festivals. Stored locally.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide the core app experience (prayers, stories, scriptures, meditation)
- To display community prayers and stories (if you choose to post)
- To find nearby temples (location used only during active search)
- To sync your progress across devices (optional cloud backup)
- To send local push notifications (festival reminders, daily mantra — you control these in Settings)
- To improve the app based on aggregated, anonymized feedback
3. Data Storage & Security
- Local Storage — Most data (reading progress, journal, bookmarks, preferences) is stored on your device via AsyncStorage.
- Cloud Storage — Community posts and optional backups are stored in Google Firebase (Firestore), hosted in the United States.
- Audio Streaming — Mantra audio is streamed from Internet Archive (archive.org) and cached locally on your device.
- No Email or Password — We use Firebase Anonymous Authentication. Your identity is a random ID with no personal information attached.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties, except:
- Community Posts — Prayers and stories you share are visible to all app users, with only your chosen display name shown.
- Firebase/Google — Technical infrastructure provider. Subject to Google Firebase Privacy Policy.
- Legal Requirements — We may disclose information if required by law.
5. Community Content & Moderation
- Community prayers and stories are filtered for inappropriate content (client-side filter).
- Users can report inappropriate content. Content receiving 3 or more reports is automatically hidden.
- You cannot edit or delete community posts after submission. Contact us if you need content removed.
6. Children's Privacy
Divine Prayer is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
7. Push Notifications
The app uses local push notifications for festival reminders and daily mantra reminders. These are scheduled entirely on your device — no data is sent to any server. You can enable or disable notifications in the app's Settings screen.
8. Third-Party Services
- Google Firebase — Authentication, database, cloud storage (Privacy Policy)
- Google Maps / Places API — Temple finder feature (Privacy Policy)
- Internet Archive — Mantra audio streaming (Terms)
- Expo — App framework and build service (Privacy Policy)
9. Your Rights
- You can use the app without providing any personal information.
- You can delete your local data by clearing the app's storage or uninstalling.
- You can request deletion of your cloud data by contacting us.
- You control push notification preferences in the app's Settings.
- You can deny location permission and still use all features except Temple Finder.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
